When Nine Years of Returns Come Down to Dividend Payments
Investors looking for income need to focus to stocks, according to David Rosenberg, Gluskin Sheff & Associates Inc.’s chief economist and strategist. In a report Monday, he wrote that dividends enabled Canada’s S&P/TSX Composite Index to produce a 30 percent return from mid-May 2007 through last week, a period when the underlying index was little changed. “The reinvested dividend has been the dominant force and that will remain the case for some time to come,” Rosenberg wrote.
